Lessons from Ruth: Are you chasing a man?
You know, God is such an intentional God. He knows exactly what you need to hear, and He sends you the word at the right time. Now, I fully believe pastors when they say, “Everything you need is in the Bible—just pick it up.”
So, here’s my story.
I had a crush on someone, and naturally, I wanted to be where he was. I started showing up in places I knew he’d be. I even joined his unit in church, became an extra caring unit member, and found excuses to start conversations with him.
But then, guilt crept in.
“A whole me, chasing a man?” I thought. “Am I not devaluing myself? Shouldn’t I carry myself with more dignity?”
The self-judgment came in waves. On one hand, I told myself I was simply being intentional. On the other, I felt like I was forcing something that should happen naturally. So, I did what I always do when I feel conflicted—I prayed about it.
I asked God to take away the feelings if they weren’t from Him. I prayed for wisdom to handle the situation well. And, for good measure, I even archived our conversations—so I wouldn’t be tempted to check in.
Then, God led me to the book of Ruth.
And you know what stood out?
Ruth positioned herself.
There were many fields she could have gleaned in, but she chose Boaz’s field. Very interesting.
Because, you see, Ruth didn’t sit at home waiting for a miracle husband to knock on her door. She went out. She was visible. She made moves.
And here’s what struck me even more: God orchestrated everything, but Ruth still had a role to play.
Boaz didn’t just wake up one morning and have a dream that Ruth was his wife. He saw her working in his field. He observed her character, her diligence, her humility.
You Have to Be Seen to Be Noticed.
In the workplace, you don’t get promoted just because you’re good at your job. You get promoted because you make your value known. You speak up. You show up.
Relationships aren’t that different. You need to be seen before you can appear in his vision. 😌
And this is the part where I had to humble myself. Because I realized—I wasn’t wrong for showing up where he was. I wasn’t devaluing myself. I was simply positioning myself.
The key is how you do it.
Ruth didn’t chase Boaz. She positioned herself near him and let God do the rest.
Dear woman, position yourself for greatness.
Go and plant in Boaz’s field.
Let him see you. But more importantly, let God guide your steps so that when you arrive, it is at the right place at the right time.
Prayer Point:
“Dear God, help me to be at the right place at the right time. Position me where my life partner and destiny helpers will see me. Let me not be hidden in the wrong field, but planted where Your blessings will find me. Help me to be seen!”
This is something I’m still learning. It’s a delicate balance—between faith and action, between trust and effort. But one thing I know for sure is that when God positions you, it will not feel like struggle. It will flow.
So, trust God. Move wisely. Position yourself. And let Him do the rest.
